Stopham Estate Pinot Gris 2023
Description
Off-dry with aromatic peach and pear fruit alongside the tropical fruit character on the nose. On the palate, this has good balance with crisp acidity. It is fairly full in body, with plenty of juicy fruit intensity, but is refreshing and long, with a lively citrus and stone fruit finish. Excellent with spicy dishes, roast pork or as an aperitif.

Vineyard: Stopham Estate
Our 21,000 vines are planted on south facing slopes, this means we are maximising the grapes' exposure to the sun and as we are at a lower altitude, we benefit from it being slightly warmer. We have free draining sandy soil at Stopham which helps amplify the fruit flavours in the wine. In England, we are fortunate to have a long ripening period which means we can achieve a good balance of fruit ripeness and acidity.

Viticulture
All of the grapes used in our wine are estate grown. All the pruning and training of the vines is done by hand. The training system used is double guyot. Soil is carefully managed and sustainable vineyard practice is at the heart of our winemaking. We use our water and energy very efficiently and as part of our drive towards sustainability we have moved away from herbicides and we are now mowing under vine. We only use pesticides when absolutely necessary.
Vinification
The Stopham estate wines are stainless steel tank fermented. After fermentation, the wine is left in tank for 6 months over the winter/spring period, this wine was bottled in April 2024 No MLF, no oak to preserve the purity of the fruit.
Maturation
No oak ageing
